2025; oil on panel; 8×10. I did some studies of the northern and central California coast. The moist atmosphere was entirely different from dry Colorado air, which frankly threw me for a loop. I was also testing out a new type of panel. This is oil paper mounted on a panel, not the typical canvas mounted on panel foundation that I typically use en plein air. It also threw me off – the pigments seemed to stick to the ground as I dragged my brush across the surface. This is the best sketch of the coast on that type of panel that I got from the trip.
