I like laying in a gestural foundation that’s loose and expressive. I do that quickly, let it set up a bit, and then work over the foundation with additional paint. My personal preference is a rougher, sketchier look, but I know many people prefer a more finished look so finding that right balance is my struggle. (Well, one of my struggles!)
