2024. Gouache on paper. 6×8.
Our Plein Air Artists of Colorado (PAAC) group met again in mid-February at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, CO. I painted this plein air piece of trees hugging the shady north side of what’s called the “hogback” just outside of the concert venue.
For those of you not familiar with Red Rocks, it’s the site of a wonderful outdoor concert venue seating 9,000 people, overlooking the lights of Denver in the distance. The site has been used since 1906. The existing amphitheatre seating was built in 1947 and has hosted performances by The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Diana Ross & the Supremes, U2, and many, many others.
Just outside the gates, however, are wonderful hills rising up into the Rocky Mountains offering great views of Denver’s metro area.
