Snow on Brewer’s Lane, Platt River Park, Denver CO.

2024. Oil on panel. 8×10.

A painting from another Plein Air Artists of Colorado (PAAC) outing in early February 2024. Cold? Oh yeah. Bitter cold. Oddly for the Denver area, the air was a bit misty or foggy which lent a distinct softness to the edges of bare tree limbs in the distance. The lake had a unique green tint that doesn’t show up in the photo, but I assure you it’s there!

I’m so pleased that I’ve discovered this PAAC group. Painting can be solitary, so it’s good to have some pals with whom to share my passion. And I always learn from the other painters. It amazes me how differently we all see the same landscape. Even if 3 painters are standing right alongside each other, one will focus on the foreground, another may seek out an element in the distance, the third may paint clouds in the sky. What we look at is different, as well as the way we interpret and describe what we look at.
